The Story Behind the Fabric: A Legacy of American Craftsmanship

For over 15 years, our family-owned factory in Tylertown, Mississippi, held a quiet but prestigious role in the interior design world: we were the exclusive manufacturer of Restoration Hardware's Vintage Velvet Drapery line.

If you have ever admired the weight, drape, and texture of RH's "Cannes" collection, you were admiring the handiwork of our team. Every panel was crafted using authentic velvet produced by JB Martin, a legendary 200 year old American company based in South Carolina, and then meticulously sewn by our skilled artisans here in Mississippi.

For six decades, our facility was a pillar of the local community. While 15% of our capacity was reserved for luxury retailers like Restoration Hardware, the majority of our work was dedicated to sewing uniforms for the United States military.

But a factory is only as good as its people. When we speak of our team, we are talking about the true "best of the best." We employed over 100 full-time workers, many of whom had been walking through our doors for over 40 years. Our floor was filled with hardworking ladies from rural Mississippi who knew every nuance of a perfect hem, and 70-year-old master mechanics who had spent their entire lives keeping complex industrial machinery humming. They were the heartbeat of an American industry that is, sadly, fading faster every day.

Despite our decades of service and dedication to quality, our factory was recently forced to close its doors. The reason was not a lack of skill, but a shift in government policy.

Most people are unaware that the majority of military and government uniforms in America are now manufactured by the prison system through a company called Federal Prison Industries (UNICOR). These contracts utilize prison labor paid as little as $0.23 per hour. Because government contracts are written to prioritize UNICOR, private factories like ours are only hired when demand exceeds prison capacity. Ultimately, we could not compete with pennies on the dollar, and over 100 skilled American jobs were lost.

When the factory closed, we refused to let our remaining materials go to waste. We preserved the final inventory of authentic Restoration Hardware Vintage Velvet, approximately 10,000 yards saved directly from the production floor.

This inventory is known as "End of Roll." When we mass-produced drapery panels, we were frequently left with odd lengths of fabric on a roll, too short or too long for the specific size run we were cutting that day. There are no imperfections in this fabric. It is first-quality, pristine material that simply wasn't the right size at the moment of production.

This is a rare opportunity to own premium, designer-grade material at a fraction of the retail cost. The fabric is genuine JB Martin "Cannes" Collection Velvet, constructed from 100% luxury cotton, with heavyweight durability and a certified 50,000 double rub test rating, commercial grade durability that stands the test of time.

This rare inventory is now housed in our storage facility in Mandeville, Louisiana, and is available for viewing and purchase by appointment only.
